We just talked with Dr. Kim and the surgery is complete. The surgical procedure went as well as it could have gone. Dr. Kim described that it was more complicated than expected to get to the brain stem because of an artery in the temporal lobe, however once he got there he was able to remove the cavernous angioma and surrounding blood, which he described as both dried and fluid. He also stated that though the angioma was smaller than expected, they had to make a much larger incision than initially planned.
We are not out of the woods yet - now we are waiting for her to wake up and see if they can remove the ventilator. Once she wakes up, we will get a sense of her movement capability. It will likely take several days to determine the extent of what kind of recovery she will have.
Now we covet your prayers for recovery and healing. We will get to see her in a few hours and I will update the blog then.
Thank you so much for all the love and support.
With love,
John, Kelly, Michael and Rachel
